Art Education ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓÆµs and faculty present at 2025 OAEA Conference, win awards
Six Art Education ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓÆµs gave presentations and participated in the 2025 Ohio Art Education Association (OAEA) Conference in Columbus, Ohio, Nov. 13-14. Students included: seniors Ellen Long, Ryan Jeansonne, Isa Obradovich, and Brooklyn Underhill; junior Rachel Drone; and sophomore Book Bryan. Faculty who presented included: Stephanie Danker, associate professor, Luke Meeken, assistant professor, and Terry Haynes, adjunct professor.
¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓÆµics of ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓÆµ ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓÆµ and faculty presentations included:
- “Museums Matter: Introducing the Gallery to All Ages” (Ellen Long)
- “What do you Meme?! Creating Linguistically Inclusive Art Spaces” (Rachel Drone)
- “Catch the Crochet Bug” (workshop by Terry Haynes)
- “No Camera? No Problem! Hands-On Photo History” (workshop by Ryan Jeansonne)
- “Creative Connections: Art, Families, and Community Growth” (Brooklyn Underhill and Alexis Taylor)
- “Indigenous Artists Making Digital Artworks: Resources for Teachers” (Luke Meeken)
- “Preservice Presentations - focus on Disability and Accessibility” (facilitated by Stephanie Danker)
- “Accessibility Devices in Art” (Book Bryan)
- “Self-Accomodating in the Classroom as a Dynamically Disabled Art Educator” (Isa Obradovich)
Additionally, Ellen Long and Luke Meeken were 2025 recipients of state-level awards, recognized at the conference. Long was the first-place winner of the Ohio Art Education Foundation Preservice Scholarship ($3,000). Meeken was the recipient of the Higher Education Division Award. They were presented with their awards during the evening programming in front of the 600 conference attendees.
“I had a fantastic time networking with teachers from across the state, learning about a variety of fascinating topics, and enjoyed hearing my peers present about their work in the field of art education,” Long said.
