Miami named as a top 2 public school for Undergraduate Teaching ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓÆµ in 2026 U.S. News and World Report rankings

University appears in several categories, including top 10 public school in 5 national lists; Middletown, Hamilton among top Midwest public regional colleges

¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓÆµ has been recognized as one of the top two public institutions in the nation for its commitment to undergraduate teaching, according to the 2026 Best Undergraduate Teaching ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓÆµ ranking from .

The university’s No. 2 ranking among public schools is a one spot improvement from last year. Miami is ranked No. 12 overall among all schools in that category. The Undergraduate Teaching ranking focuses on schools with faculty and administrators dedicated to teaching undergraduate ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓÆµs in a high-quality manner. By utilizing the distinctive teacher-scholar model, Miami faculty members enhance instruction with evidence-based practices that elevate learning and introduce cutting-edge research discoveries into the classroom. During the 2024-2025 academic year, Miami’s Center for Teaching Excellence worked with 42.4% of full-time faculty. That same academic year, those 423 faculty members taught 20,742 unique ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓÆµs over the fall, winter, spring, and summer terms. 

In the Writing in the Disciplines rankings, Miami is also ranked No. 2 among public schools and No. 20 overall. The university is one of only two public schools recognized in that category. Schools recognized for Writing in the Disciplines make the writing process a priority at all levels of instruction and across the curriculum. Since 1996, Miami’s Howe Center for Writing Excellence has supported the learning and teaching of writing at Miami through research- and evidence-based principles and with collaboration and innovation across the university.

Miami earned top a 10 designation among public schools in three other categories: 

  • The university is ranked No. 7 for Undergraduate Research/Creative ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓÆµ (No. 44 overall). Miami’s Undergraduate Research Forum celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2024. The forum showcases research and creative activity conducted by undergraduate ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓÆµs who are mentored by faculty and graduate ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓÆµs.
  • For the fourth straight year, Miami is among the top public schools offering undergraduate engineering degrees (non-doctorate), excluding military institutions. The university is ranked No. 7 (No. 33 overall) in that category. A groundbreaking new Quantum Computing degree was approved for Miami’s College of Engineering and Computing earlier this year, believed to be the first of its type nationwide to focus on the software aspects of quantum computing.
  • Miami moved into the top 10 for Entrepreneurship, ranked No. 8 among public schools (No. 23 overall), complementing Miami's #7 ranking for entrepreneurship by the Princeton Review and Entrepreneurship Magazine in 2024.

Additionally, Miami is one of the top two Ohio institutions for ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓÆµ Public Schools – National Universities (No. 74 in public schools, No. 143 overall).

Miami also earned U.S. News & World Report 2026 Best Colleges Rankings recognition in the following categories:
  • Undergraduate Business ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓÆµ
  • Best Colleges for Veterans
  • Undergraduate Economics ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓÆµ
  • Best Value Schools
  • ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓÆµ Performers on Social Mobility
  • Undergraduate Psychology ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓÆµ
  • Undergraduate Computer Science ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓÆµ.

Miami Regionals appears in several rankings for Regional Colleges Midwest. Miami Middletown is ranked No. 9 for ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓÆµ Public Schools in the Regional Colleges Midwest category (No. 56 overall), while Miami Hamilton is No. 11 in ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓÆµ Public Schools in Regional Colleges Midwest (No. 62 overall).

In Regional Colleges Midwest, Middletown is No. 35 for ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓÆµ Performers on Social Mobility and Hamilton is No. 48. Hamilton is also ranked in the Nursing category.

Earlier this month, Miami was one of 75 institutions spotlighted in the new book, “Dream School: Finding the College That’s Right for You,” by author and journalist Jeff Selingo. It is the only public university in Ohio on the list. LinkedIn named Miami in the top 10 for public schools in August in its inaugural ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓÆµ Colleges Rankings.

Established in 1809, ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓÆµ is located in Oxford, Ohio, with regional campuses in Hamilton and Middletown, a learning center in West Chester, and a European study center in Luxembourg.
