Wil Haygood will launch his latest book at ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵ with a Feb. 17 event at Hall Auditorium.
praised Haygood’s “The War Within a War: The Black Struggled in Vietnam and at Home” on Feb. 9 as a “rare, illuminating look at the way the war shaped the struggle for equality back home.” David Shribman in a piece wrote “Haygood was born to be a writer” in a Feb. 8 review. And a story in the Guardian called Haygood’s new book a “vital reminder” about Black soldiers who served in Vietnam.
“The War Within a War” is Haygood’s 10th nonfiction book. The 1976 Miami graduate will launch the book at his alma mater on Feb. 17 with “.” The special event is 6:30-8 p.m. in Hall Auditorium and is free and open to the public.
Haygood will be joined by his editor Peter Gethers, as well as Dorothy Harris of Cincinnati and Dr. Elbert Nelson of Columbus, Georgia. The nurse and doctor, both currently of Cincinnati, are featured in Haygood’s book on the Vietnam War, democracy, and the Civil Rights Movement.
Attendees will receive signed books from the acclaimed author and journalist, who has been the Boadway Distinguished Scholar-in-Residence in Miami’s Department of Media, Journalism, and Film since 2014-2015.
